As stated in previous January newsletter, St Joseph Netball Club will endeavour to keep all players, umpires, coaches and parents informed. To do this adequately, the plan is to obtain all email addresses of coaches and players and the coaches to forward onto their team either via email or hard copy of these newsletters. Please assist your coaches with your contact details. If you wish a hard copy via post please ring Carmel (number above) of your postal address and arrangements can be made.
Kym Steer of the company, Team Solutions Training Australia has kindly agreed to develop a web site for St Joseph whereby you can view these newsletters on the internet under the company name of Team Solutions Training Australia/Kym Steer. Plans are afoot to develop a more comprehensive website and therefore increase the medium of communication for present and future St Joseph players.
Thankyous:
Much appreciation is extended to you all for your cooperation in the grading meeting and then sessions and the club and meet day, despite the hot weather. The club has a total of 15 teams and as you could imagine a lot of “behind the scene work” goes on for the players, coaches and umpires to be accommodated.
Some coaches and umpires are new to the club and we warmly welcome them and sincerely thank them for taking up these vital positions.
Carol and Becky also volunteered for canteen coordinators and this we too are grateful.
And as mentioned above Kym Steer for the St Joseph website.
Season timetable:
Sat 26th April: matches commence
Sat 7th June: BYE for all teams
Sat 12th July: BYE for all teams
Sat 9th August: last match if not in semi final
Sat 16th August: Semi- finals
Sat 23rd August: Preliminary Final
Sat 30th August: Grand Final.
Please use the South Australia United Church Netball website if you have misplaced your teams timetable. www.saucna.org and click on winter day page and follow the links for your team. You will need to know what grade eg. E4 .
Regrading;
Regrading of teams and not individual players can occur after the fourth round of matches, 17th May. Coaches will be advised via the St Joseph committee.
Home Courts:
Home matches of St Joseph Netball Club are located at the corner of Brighton and Chopin Rds, Somerton Park.( across the road from Sacred Heart College main buildings) There is not a phone at this venue so you must have your coaches contact details.
Canteen is available for drinks and sweet/ nibbles but not lunches.
Score cards:
Coaches will be given score cards prior to the first round of matches.
A parent/supporter to be nominated each match to score.
It is essential that cards are completed correctly. The key points to remember are:
• The white card is for “home games”. This is the official card.
• The blue card is for “away games’ and is the check card.
• Indicate what grade it is, eg E4, date and name of players.
• At completion of game to take card to umpires to check and sign.
• Scorers and team captain to also sign.
• The team manager and/or coach to check all details entered and correct and check who is responsible to deliver to the:
• The labelled box provided in the canteen at the “ home courts,” by 4.30pm
• OR, hand deliver into letter box at 18 Cudmore St, Somerton Park (west side of Brighton Rd) if at an “away match” and on your way home.
ALL CARDS MUST BE COMPLETED AND AVAILABLE FOR GENEVIEVE TO COLLECT SATURDAY AFTERNOON AS IT TAKES TIME AND EFFORT TO THEN COLLATE AND SEND RESULTS TO THE NETBALL ASSOCIATION.
Timer:
Requires another parent/supporter to be nominated for this task.
The home match to supply a timer for the quarters (15 minutes).
The “visiting team” to supply a timer for injury time up to 2 minutes (and blood policy rule) and times the quarters ( 3 minutes ) and half break ( 5 minutes)..
HINT: make sure the batteries are working for the timer!!
Team manager:
It is ideal if a parent takes on the role as team manager. Team managers can organise/delegate timetable for who is to score and time, be person to ask “what number court playing on”? ensure that the scorers and timers organised on the day of the match, nominate when canteen duty is required, check score cards correct and delivered and check contents of first-aid kit.
This allows the coach to concentrate on the players and warm-up exercises at beginning of match and de-brief at end of match.
Some coaches take on this dual responsibility but a back up is always gladly welcomed. Please approach your coach or just be sensitive at start and end of matches that certain tasks must be organised.
Canteen.
There is an expectation if your team is playing “at home” on court one nearest to the canteen, then an adult of that team (or share btw adults) to assist in the canteen for that game. Either Carol or Becky as co-ordinators will be available, but they too have daughters playing and juggling transport and support for them.
Club Fees:
A reminder that some players/parents have not paid club fees. The discounted fee cut off was 16th March but fees still need to be paid.
DO NOT EXPECT THE COACH TO HANDLE ANY PAYMENT, THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
Junesse is the St Joseph club treasurer

Medical Forms/First Aid kits.
For safety of players and in view of emergencies, it is an requirement that the coaches/managers to ensure that Medical and Emergency contact forms are readily available and in the “netball kit” with the first aid boxes.
The forms will be given to you by your coach/team manager for you to complete.
If your player needs specific equipment for the first aid kit, eg non-allergy tapes, puffers then that parent to supply that equipment into the fist aid kit with specific instructions and markings who for and action plans.
As many of our coaches and team managers are parents/ volunteers and may not have first aid qualifications, then only very basic fist aid will be administered to the player until more professional advice is sought.
Please seek out these forms from your coach to complete and change any contact details that may occur throughout the season.
For re-stocking of first-aid kit, contact Kerri 8298 2565
Basic expectations
For those new to the club and association each umpire and club have certain restriction where to sit and how to “barrack”, including St Joseph.
Be mindful when placing your seats near the sidelines if that is the appropriate and safest place to be for players and umpires. If need be, clarify with the umpire or club.
Some umpires will expect coaches to abide by the safety rule of not running up and down the courts as risk of colliding and distracting the umpires and will expect coaches to remain in one designated area of the court. This also applies to supporters.
Only coaches are expected to coach and “give directions” to players, whereby supporters are encouraged to do just that support, but not coach.
The umpires can stop the game if deemed behaviour is not appropriate.
Any witnessed concerns of any persons’ behaviour, please approach your coach first and/or contact the St Joseph Committee key personnel. (Wendy, Clare R and Clare H)*
